Ah I can see how that could be misconstrued lol, it's some underground French hip-hop w/glitch and hyperpop elements, I'm not 100% sold on it but also think it's worth a check for anyone jamming rap stuff this year.

I think there is surely some value to trash/hate listens not all that dissimilarly to how being what Johnny coined a “sightseer” can be valuable to certain stages of one’s music listening career, and I used to do both things often but I’ve hit this wall where now whenever I do either I just don’t glean anything from it and it’s more of a “what am I even doing rn” moment.

I remember that I actually used to even have a self-imposed rule where I had to listen to anything I started in full before forming an opinion on or rating it but like man sometimes you can just feel it in your ballsack that something is a 1 within the first 20 seconds and why force yourself to prolong the suffering

i generally just turn stuff off after a few tracks these days if its not my vibe but i can genuinely say i had never heard anything quite like this before (or the more metal tracks at least), even if it is pretty bad. it was worth the cursory listen

It’s funny, I actually listened to their previous record because there was this mildly annoying metal reviewer on yt that made a clickbaity video calling it “THE WORST METAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR????????” and I wanted to give it a chance because it seemed like such a weird move to pull on a relatively unknown band, and honestly I didn’t think it was that bad but I didn’t enjoy it either. So it was honestly really amusing to see that he was ahead of the curve lmao.



I actually ended up listening to this because the review threads were really funny. Also any time an album has an insane rating distribution it makes me want to listen to it.

@Pots: when I checked this it had a 4.2 average and a couple of not-terrible users sported more-than-reasonable assessments. Also, as a Brit these guys have some minor cultural relevance here and I was curious enough to see what the fuss was all about.

I’d heard one song by them in the past and don’t remember it being particularly noteworthy, but also not completely terrible… so? Yeah, thought it was worth a once over if nothing more. I don’t even regret it tbh, thread has been funny af at certain points and without the ref of having actually heard it, the context would’ve been lost on me. I’d have been more disappointed if it was just ‘below average’.

Absolutely. Despite the fact that I already knew about these guys prior to this album, the cringy cult gimmick immediately turned me away before I even gave the music a chance

For me it's the cringe cult thing and how they're being lauded as the greatest thing since sliced bread all over Twitter and TikTok from people whose favorite bands are Dance Gavin Dance and Bring Me the Horizon.

I actually didn't want to rate this at first cuz I did go in knowing I prob wouldn't like it (initial listen was at Johnny's request blame him) then I thought about it for a while and decided the cult shit + the self-harm song actually does all bother me enough that I don't think they deserve that good faith
