automatically labeling anyone who makes a sexual assault accusation as a victim is your first mistake. obviously its very hard for people who have been assaulted to go through the process of coming out about it, but to say you could have nothing to gain by accusing someone of sexual assault is nonsense.



my friend's ex girlfriend tried blackmailing him with rape accusations after he broke up with her. turns out she had a history of making false rape accusations with ex boyfriends. sometimes the motive can be something as simple as revenge.

TBH Nick Von Nuke and Snide have some very valid points here. We can't act like there's no ulterior motive someone could have for accusing someone of these things, but they do also stand to suffer a LOT, especially if the person they're accusing is someone with a lot of very devoted fans.

I dunno. I think more than anything this news just came as an absolute gut punch. Lacey’s lyrics have literally altered my life and I feel an overwhelming combination of betrayal, denial, and genuine skepticism. The latter will remain unless some form of evidence is produced, but otherwise it's a tough pill to swallow. I've only been vaguely following the recent rash of allegations by scrolling social media, and when I saw a COS post about Lacey my first thought was "enough with this shit" and I think I carried that attitude for the first several hours following the initial shock (which is also when I made that now famous post in this thread) - however, it was coming from a very underinformed and overly emotional place. I definitely should have refrained from posting, at least, until I had read the Facebook thread from which the controversy stemmed. So I wholeheartedly apologize to anyone I offended with that, it was ill-timed and in poor taste.



After I had a chance to finish what I was doing (was at a movie theater with friends when the bashing began so I couldn't adequately respond the way I wanted) I went back and read the actual allegation and tried to interpret the context. All I can say is that I hope it is not true. I'm still a little fuzzy on how someone can "make" you watch a Skype video of them masturbating (psychological influence aside I guess), but I wasn't there and don't really know. If he's guilty of this as alleged, then I am devastated for that girl and any others that he took advantage of. No matter the situation there is no excuse for engaging in any sexual behavior with a minor. At all.



I'll definitely be reevaluating my personal admiration of Lacey and his band. I'm not going to disown them based on accusations alone (I can't stress enough how our social media age of hive-mind, evidence-less convictions makes me sick), but if any of this turns out to be even partially true then I commend this woman for coming forward as well as any others that may follow.



This just sucks. A sad day for me and a sad day for music. But if it sheds light on a predator (if he is one -- can't stress that enough), then it will all be obviously for the best. Thanks to those who didn't immediately tear me a new one but I understand those who did. Besides Downer. Fuck you.

so Im a long time visiter but im not active on the site. Im 27 now and i remember almost 10 years ago seeing those literal screen shots shes talking about floating around myspace and the like. I remember hearing this story 10 years ago and didnt seem to care because i was 17. Im a massive Brand New fan also but he definitely did this.



still gonna enjoy the music because they are brilliant composed by a slew of other musicians, but lets not all pretend his lyrics were mind blowing.
