Band is great, this album is just very middle of the road for them. It's got a couple great songs, some that are forgettable, and at least one in particular that is just not that good. It's not bad, but it's not their best.

The discussion about what is their best will always bounce between CTS or Remission, that is a matter of fact, but I think this album managed to mix their old CTS style with their new direction and honestly I think they found their sound.

If this is Mastodon finding their sound, I'm breaking up with them. FB official

Roots Remain is the best here, along with Jaguar God.

I managed to overplay Roots Remain. My favorite part right now is the streak from Ancient Kingdom to Jaguar God, lots of variety in there. The last 30 seconds of Andromeda slap hard

Roots Remain is my fave too, Brann kills it in that chorus.

Roots, Jaguar, and Word are my favorites -- best combination of big riffs and varied songwriting. The adherence to radio-friendly song structures hamstrung the last two albums so it's great to hear multiple styles within songs again. Brings back that feeling of being on a journey, starting in one place and ending in another like the song's accomplished something.

Haven't jammed this in a while. I think I'm fully MASTODONTIZED.

If I was going to give one of the last 3 another chance it’d be this one.

Is there really much of a difference between this and Cold Dark Place? I still wonder why some people dug the EP and hated this one.

i like the EP way more, has more of a jam-session feel and less of a structured pop thing
