I can't wait to hear it. This one, at least on first impressions, is near perfect.

Panopticon is less sludgey for sure, but the melodies, build-ups and crescenods pay off so damn well that you won't even miss the heavyness

Yeah Panopticon is definitely better imo, but this is still a very good album.

If you're not a lil' bitch it's a good place to start.
However, based on past interactions, you do appear to be quite the lil' bitch.
So maybe.

Panopticon and Salvation are the ways into post-metal

Listened to Deafheaven’s Sunbather today and would also call that a good entry point into the genre. Fantastic album.

Sunbather is distilled awesomeness, however it is not really a typical post metal album. Blackgaze would be a much more appropriate genre description for the sound of that album, even though there are post metal elements of course

'Cult of Luna (who in the long run became my fave band in the genre, but Isis are easier to get into)!'
I often hear the opposite re their relative accessibility. Love CoL though, could never quite get into these guys in the same way, although admittedly I should maybe venture beyond their classics.
'if i want to get into post-metal is this the album to start with'
Neurosis is obviously essential but not always the easiest band to delve into, having said that I recommend 'The Eye of Every Storm' as it's both relatively accessible and one of the best albums of all time.

From the tracks i heard CoL sounded more accessible imo

That is indeed what most people say, guess I'd agree in the sense that I've never fully gotten into this band to the same extent, although at this point I'd say that's a difference in taste more than anything else. In other words I've reached the point where I like the band, but further listening isn't helping to elevate this or (especially) Panopticon to the next level.
Who knows maybe one day I'll love it (or this) as much as Neurosis/CoL, you just never know with music.

Panopticon was a love on first listen for me and people seem to find that one easiest to get into, so it's a shame it's not clicking for you :[ I guess WR is probably more accessible in its own way, despite being more convoluted - that album has so much colour!
Agreed on Neurosis being a nightmare to get into, I remember starting with Souls At Zero, feeling it click after forever and then moving onto Enemy of the Sun and having to reassess everything I thought I liked about the band (and then of course TSiB cemented everything)
