Yeah, this has decreased in quality for me after listening to Petition and Jane Doe.

i just read that as on January, this album had only sold a little over 17,000 copies. How can that be so low?
Yeah, this has decreased in quality for me after listening to Petition and Jane Doe yes, but not by much

#1 Converge still does not have a monsterous steady fan base.
#2 There are a lot of people who downloaded the CD or got it from someone.
#3 Sputnik just makes them seem extremely popular. False.

i dunno, they sell out every show here in cleveland. but they do also play with ringworm all the time here. ringworm are the hometown old-school metalcore band.

I actually think these guys are THE PREMIRE metalcore band that will continue to have wonderfully raved reviews until the end of their career

I'm listening to this album now, and IMO "Petitioning The Empty Sky," and "Jane Doe," (which most people will probably agree with me on) are much better. This is my 3rd favorite Converge Album. This Message Edited On 04.14.07

Jesus the ending to "To The Lions" is sick.

Converge sounds like barking dogs

The above comment certainly was pointless.
The more I listen to this, the more I like it. It doesn't touch Jane Doe or Petitioning the Empty Sky but it is on par with You Fail Me and When Forever Comes Crashing...
Converge really are the premier metalcore band - they have been around for going on 16 or 17 years now and still tour relentlessly, release great albums and live up to expectations.
The opening four tracks of the album floor me every time I listen to this. Then after Grim Heart/ Black Rose, the album rapes me until the awesome closing guitar section of To the Lions.

Eh, I don't think this touches You Fail Me. "Bare My Teeth" is the only really superb track on here, in my opinion.
|
| |
You Fail Me is pretty tame compared to this. That being said, I could probably listen to You Fail Me more than this because this is a hell of a lot more brutal, but as far as musicianship goes, this wins.

You Fail Me is way darker and works better as an album.

You Fail Me is underrated.

Very very true.
|

It may be darker in concept, but it's less brutal and ultimately more disappointing in sound.

"You Fail Me" never really hooked me in like the rest of the albums. Maybe cause the first couple tracks aren't that great of openers. I think I'm gonna give "YFM" another listen just to see if it grows on me or not.

Urm.
First Light and Last Light are brilliant openers.
Bannon sounds great on Last Light.
You Fail Me is much better lyrically. I think No Heroes is not as good lyrically as previous works (except Trophy Scars, that is incredible).

word. last light blows my fucking mind.....this is for the hearts still beating!!!
btw, i agree, you fail me is better lyrically but there almost equal in my eyes.

"Trophy Scars" good lyrically?
I WANNA DIE WITHOUT THIS PAIN
I think You Fail Me is just the darkest lyrically and musically. The title track is so sludgey and dark and the last track and tracks like Black Cloud just have this eerie dissonance. Plus Bannon and Ballou just sound demonic, especially on the title track. The vocal soundtrack sounds like torture at some points.
