Well, I wasn't saying all American metal is bad, but definitely a good portion of it. BTBAM is one of my favorite bands and Arsis is of course awesome.

Kamelot has been around for over ten years, havent they? And you'd reccomend The Fourht Legacy over Epica, really?
I suppose a better phrase would have been "new-ish." Personally, I liked The Fourth Legacy better. I guess it's just personal taste. Nothing wrong with Epica, but it didn't stick to me the same way.

This argument ends right now. Sharkmenow, you've been completely obnoxious about this entire thing. I ended the review by saying that it's perfectly fine for someone to disagree with me and love the album, but still you had to insult anyone who disagreed with you and act like a mindless elitist. I don't know if insulting Shadows Fall just to spite me makes you feel warm and fuzzy, but if it does, keep it to yourself. Right now it's gotten to the point where I wouldn't want your opinion on coloring books let alone music. So please, take your "godlike guitar skills" and duel with yourself for all I care. Listen kid. Let me save you, me, and everybody else a load of grief. Look back on the last few pages over the furious verbal gang raping of the fanboys who couldn't respect a dissenting opinion.
If you want to buy this CD, we have no problem with that. But we are free to dislike it and say so. If you can't handle that, you don't belong on the internet at all, because this is the ultimate egalitarian exchange of ideas.
Now if you want to try arguing why this album doesn't suck (and we expect better than a few sentences of hollow praise), feel free. But when you attack others for their views, things get nasty.

I found this album quite enjoyable, but there are some very obvious traces of Metallica in some of the songs - I've only heard Black Album, and i could hear a couple of riffs that i swear i've heard before..
Apart from that though, i didn't think it was as terrible as some people say it is. The lyrics are pretty bad though..
I would say its about half a step ahead of ascendancy, and about 9 steps to the side.
Also, are you sure its not thrash metal? I mean if its just a mix of metallica riffs with worse lyrics surely it's thrash metal.
Try-hard thrash metal at least.
Musically, i would say its ahead of Ascendancy and much better than Ember To Inferno.
Its a bit hard to rate The Crusade, but if i had to, i would say its better than Soilwork's Stabbing the Drama, but definately not as good as Soilwork's The Chainheart Machine.

Hardly a cover band,and if this isnt thrash than what is it?(spare me the sarcastic "its crap" bs).What we all need to remember also is that this band is a bunch of damn kids who are no older than 22.Their playing ability exceeds most of their peers that they're lumped together with(M.Heafys sweep picking is very very good).
For a band that's accomplished what these kids have already done at their age is unbelievable and Id much rather they carry the torch for metal than dogpoop like Avenged Sevenfold and all their hot topicy madness.

Aside from the fact that it really doesn't, so what? Michale Graves was only 19 when he joined The Misfits. Edguy released Mandrake when they were all in their early 20's. The youth of a musician makes a nice novelty, but unless they can release consistently good material, it doesn't amount to much.
Trivium have failed on that account. I get far more enjoyment out of City of Evil than I did from Ascendency.

If that's the best thing you can think to praise them on, they're in deep shit.

Wow steerpike as a musician its plain ignorant to compare Micheal Graves to Matt or Corey,as if the misfits or any punk band actually has good musicians outside of the occasional drummer here and there.

Matt Heafy is considered a guitar prodigy,and if you bothered to do some research you would realize that the kid has been winning awards and various other accolades since he was 14 yrs old.Bands like Machine Head and Fear Factory and Chimaira took these kids out on tour with them when they 18 yrs old because they knew they had something.Some of metals biggest legends(Maiden,Metallica,Priest,Slayer)have sung nothing but praise for this band and have all said how they are glad to know that metal is in good hands.Dave Mustaine wants to get them for gigantour next year because he thinks they're a great,young band.Vinnie Paul and Rita have taken them in as nephews practically,inviting them to all their parties and Rita going as far as to give them dimes guitars to use on tour.
Yet somehow they really suck,arent thrash,and most certainly arent metal at all.Yeah right.
A7X actually a good band......I almost thew up when I read that.
