think i started at 3.5, possibly 4. didn't like European Son or Black Angel's Death Song much, didn't like Nico's vox mainly down to the accent and thought there was filler.

This is one of those classics that I just don't "get". Sunday Morning and Heroin are great, but the rest do nothing for me. I have vivid memories of listening to Venus in Furs will blazed out my mind years ago and being scared shitless. Just a generally uncomfortable song. I understand how innovative and influential this album was so props for that, it just doesn't do anything for me unfortunately.

The thing I don't get is Andy Warhol. The man was obviously a complete arse.

That much is clear.

Says something about a record when my fave aspect of it is the sleeve cover

this album's impact and influence is larger than its own appeal, I agree

always thought Heroin was a bit overrated as a stand alone song but everything here works for me. took me time. i think getting into mid to late 80s Sonic Youth helped me appreciate this more when I revisited it, cos i was never really exposed to the noiser side of rock as a kid.

in theory, this should be terrible. none of them are brilliant singers - one is a German model with a thick accent and awkward delivery, English being not even her second language, put into the band by management to make them more appealing.

then there are the avant-garde leanings of Cale, messy playing and primitive production. it should be a complete mess but it's totally awesome.
