Will jam Origin first. Might get to it today, but if not, definitely tomorrow.

okay i've listened through twice now and i genuinely cannot figure out what you all see in this. fine, it's better than their last four albums, but that's really not saying a lot.

haven't listened to this band for so long i started telling myself it was just my late-teens brain telling me they were good and they actually never were. hearing citizen erased now is making me realise maybe it wasn't one of those bands after all. will have to go back to Origin at least and then try to give this a fair shot again

Yeah I’m not a fan of The Resistance but I haven’t listened to it in years, and also have only listened prob 4 or 5 times. Has some good tracks scattered throughout as I recall though. No Showbiz?

my nostalgic memories of OoS were certainly not as powerful as the reality upon revisiting, agreed with markjamie in the sense it sounds dated - a few great cuts but idc about hearing a few that I previously did and it tails off pretty dramatically.

Absolution is kinda top heavy also but way more consistent, it feels like the sound they were 'meant' to have. Their best form.

Interested to see how BH&R holds up (or not, as the case may be).

This is actually a very competitive effort. It's certainly in the upper echelons of their discog. There isn't this huge discrepancy in quality (I was previously assuming there would be). Maybe this is just 'fresher' and will wear off quickly, lets see.

Absolution era has some of my favourite songs (In Your World, Deadstar, Stockholm Syndrome) but I don't enjoy that record all the way through in one sitting.
OoS is an experience, stuff like 'Micro Cuts' was unlike anything I'd heard at the time.
'Futurism' should've been on the album as it's the "Muse-iest" track there, but man 'New Born' is still one of the best openers ever.
I've spun this a few times and I'm enjoying it, which I haven't been able to say since the first half of The Resistance.

I swear, The Resistance is just two completely separate ideas meshed together.

The first 'half' is the relatively standard Muse album with some good to decent songs, you got your 'Uprising'/'Resistance'/'Undisclosed Desires'/'Guiding Light'/'Unnatural Selection' and 'MK Ultra'...

and then you have the rest, which feels like it belongs on a completely different album.
