I feel like there are far more dividing voices lol.
Like I could understand that statement about someone like Billy Corgan or Geddy Lee (I love the Smashing Pumpkins) but this feels like silly hyperbole

different strokes and all that but 90% of the time he's holding and warbling a note I'm just thinking 'this is so douchey and bad'
I feel like it adds nothing to the songs, and the songs also don't have a lot going on to begin with.

Just listened (only once) to this since it's #1 on RYM for 2025 and honestly I'm kinda lost on this one. I genuinely don't understand.
Do people really enjoy his voice ? or when he's holding a note and warble for far too long.. I dunno, it sounds really grating.
To me, it was one of the worst albums I probably heard but I'm really interested in understanding why you guys like it and what I'm not getting here.
There's must be something I'm missing... right?

whenever people say they are "really interested in why you're enjoying something" they're not really interested in that at all.

@Hertzy I’ve found a lot of great bands on RYM (Public Health for example) but the user top 10’s often tend to go the way of hype rather than quality or personal enjoyment. Not necessarily saying Getting Killed isn’t quality because I actually enjoy it quite a bit but I do think the hype tends to shut out any fair criticisms that can be brought up against it.
Needless to say if you didn’t enjoy it that’s all you have to say, don’t need to explain yourself further really.

I understand. I just enjoy trying to expand the kind of music I listen to. With this one I was kind of puzzled. Since it's in a genre that I'm unfamiliar with, I thought I was missing something. But you maybe right and it's not just for me.
@Reefa I'm actually interested in different opinions and try to see things from other perspective.
I'm not a native English speaker btw so sorry for my poor response.

“Do people really enjoy his voice ?” very much so, yes. it isn’t that it sounds “conventionally” good so much as that it’s unique and pairs well with the music, a la Isaac Brock, Phil Elverum, Jeff Mangum, etc.

@RadioSuicide I enjoy Modest Mouse and thought Neutral Milk Hotel was just okay. This is probably just not the genre for me. I'll still keep trying though.

I don't get why people are surprised by this. So many beloved bands and artists have/are singers that are quite divisive/aquired taste e.g. Billy Corgan, Geddy Lee, Björk, Joanna Newsom etc. Hell, even Thom Yorke and Joni Mitchell have dedicated haters who can't stand their voices. Get over it

Yet, I don't have any issues with The Smashing Pumkins, Rush or Bjork.. Anyway, it's not that important. I just wanted to understand if I was missing something. I tried Heavy Metal too but couldn't get into it. That's what is is, I guess.
