Survivor's Guilt is a total mess that for me redeems itself in the final minute, I feel like I'm more entertained by the bizarroworld left turns than this is actually GOOD but it's good entertainment. Path of Totality levels of endearing.

Feels like my ears are getting smacked with sledgehammers wtf is this production goddamn.

Severe loudness war victim and proof positive we should have never stopped talking about that just because a few pop albums came out with decent dynamic range (namely Bruno Mars albums)

It’s hard to really rate the album fairly because it’s barely listenable.

Yeah it's not just you lol Teeth is a DR2. Unacceptable for a non harsh noise/intentionally blown out release in 2025

Even if Teeth was well produced it’s still arguably the worst song they’ve ever written lol.

I like that the synths are more present in the music. Usually the dude's more useless than the turntable guy in Deftones

too little too late for him to be so prominent among shitty riffs

Chris has always been present in their music. The music was just better.

Pretty telling that this is averaging lower than the new ADTR

I mean, the riffs that actually exist here are pretty similar to the ones they've always written though. There are a few that wouldn't be out of place on LITSOS. That's probably the only criticism I've seen of this album that I don't understand lol

I mean there’s no denying the songwriting is just nowhere near the same level as their older material. Just feels like they don’t have a unified vision anymore. Just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks.

of course. just making jokes about the scene's refusal to accept stylistic left turns if they don't have "riffs", even if they're a more cohesive project than some of the slapdash early work that had better "riffs" (e.g: act of depression over erase me/voyeurist which i felt were more cohesive works filled with less jank than the first 2 albums)

chris is undeniably the strong point here and hot take tim has honestly never been that amazing at writing riffs anyway. i love me some fuckin riffs but i was revisiting the big three all weekend and thats never really been whats made this band special. hes always written simple parts and they aint that different than they are here
in regards to myself aside good lord thats a nasty riff

"Just feels like they don’t have a unified vision anymore. Just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks."
I'd say the album has a farily consistent sound though. Every song is a combination of their old sound and bmth-esque modern nu metalcore, with synths and catchy (or at least trying to be lol) radio metal choruses. It's clear to me that they're trying to "update" their old sound (considering that their last album with Aaron before the breakup was released nearly 17 years ago) to the current meta for the genre. And idk if this is a mistake, considering other places I've looked besides Sputnik seem to be enjoying the album.

yeah funny enough i have seen a lot of places that are saying this is their best work post reunion by a mile lmao so i think they j dont give a damn bout their old heads anymore

In Regards To Myself is still one of my favorite riffs to go back and play every now and then... but yeah I think I've always preferred their simpler but melodic side of their guitar writing rather than technicality
