"This album is best when it's fun and mostly bad when it's mopey (except for Greyhound)"
real aside from Hall of Frozen Heads and the bad skramz songs
"The M83 vibes are kinda accurate some places here haha!"
lmfao there were several points where i felt this wanted to be kayo dot but came out as m83. gratitude esp sounds like a janky hipster cover of zlida caosgi

But dont worry, Johnny, this isnt anything like Notes On a Conditional Form even tho the singles seemed kind of scatterbrained it all fits together well, tehe

Hall of Frozen Heads and Greyhound are very clearly the best tracks, by a pretty wide margin. Not sure how I feel about this after one spin. Def seems to have some extraneous material but some rly good tracks too.

I think Looks Like Nothing is my favorite. The last half is seriously amongst the best things I’ve ever heard. It reminds me a lot of when “You Won’t Know” by Brand New explodes

Mine are probably Looks Like Nothing, Gratitude, and Greyhound. But I have a feeling I’m gonna bump this to a 4.5. I enjoy this so much despite my issues with the last 4 tracks

Yeah, Gratitude is also excellent, and maybe Looks Like Nothing and Barking. Those are my top 5, I think. McDonald’s is hilariously bad

Uncanny, just checked my RYM ratings and they were the only tracks to get a 4.5 rating on first run through.
The ratings plunge as low as a 0.5 for the McDonalds song...see how that one grows on me this week, the only way is up for that one

I don’t get what’s wrong with Kentucky McDonald’s. It’s another favorite of mine. That’s whole run from Cleaning to Gratitude doesn’t have a song on it I’d give less than a 4.5. And really and truly Greyhound is a standout, it’s just kinda long. Those leaner tracks just flow very nicely. I absolutely cannot get into Dead Cat. Every time it plays I just wanna turn it off. It sounds like a NMG b-side

I did warm to the most recent Smidley album quite a lot and on subsequent listens its most grating moments mellowed on me...we'll see

if dead cat sounded like a nearer my god b side itd probably be kinda good but alas
|

yea sounds more like a leftover from them trying to do the soppy ballads on DDTM lol, awful song
some of the demos from their patreon are stronger than a lot of the stuff that's on here tbh. including a better Kentucky McDs version

may have to check those out. certainly curious how the arrangement on mcdonalds developed
dead cat and cry baby are the only two things i outright dont like here but the latter is a very underwhelming close tbh and is probably my biggest gripe with this. hall of frozen heads woulda done the job perfectly
