Yea, I really need to listen to this album a whole lot more. These guys really influenced my guitar playing for about a month. I love the ambient stuff devoid of a lot of digital effects. Speaking of giving bands like Isis a chance, I've been meaning to check out Neurosis. Judging by your user photo, you seem like you have some experience with them. What album should I start with?

Hahahaha my love for Neurosis is borderline obsessive (not to mention my 4 Neurosis reviews I wrote on this site already hahaha).
You seem to like alot of guitar driven stuff judging by your pie chart. I would probably recommend Given to the Rising (my avatar). Sonically, the album is heavy as fuck and they use alot of subtle guitar effects underneath the chaos that's going on.

Haha! I figured you must at least like them quite a bit to allow you to put their latest album artwork as your forum photo, lol. Thanks for the suggestion, bro. I've actually listened to that album some and liked what I heard. I really like the sludginess of it all. It gives the music such a heavy sound. Oh yea, and I really love guitar driven stuff, lol. John Petrucci and Jeff Loomis (As you can see) make me extremely happy. Still, I do admire older, more subtle guitarists like David Gilmour, who happens to rank up pretty high on my favorite guitarist list. I'll definitely check out the Neurosis album, because they seem like a really awesome band.

If you like David Gilmour, then you would for sure love older Neurosis. Oh, and since we are on the topic of shredding/ guitar tricks etc., do yourself a favour and listen to Blotted Science's The Machinations of Dementia. Quite possibly one of the best tech metal albums you will ever hear.

I do not have the album, but that is another that I have been meaning to get. From what I've heard, it is nothing short of amazing. Dang my empty pockets!

Glad to see you still liked it Trey. And if you like the new one, you'll dig In Absense of Truth a lot as well.

Yeah, I'll try to buy it this weekend. I'm still not too thrilled with Oceanic though.
|
| |
is this better than Oceanic? Because i only have Oceanic and while it is good, I don't find anything all THAT special about it
|
| |
Much better. I like Oceanic a ton but would easily say this blows it completely out of the water!

Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of Oceanic either, Metalstyles. Definitely give this a shot and if you like it than try the new one too.

yeah look at like a software upgrade: Panopticon is Oceanic version 2.0: far superior in every way. If you like Oceanic, you'll LOVE Panopticon.
Which explains why you aren't too keen on this Trey. You weren't thrilled with Oceanic, so you weren't totally blown away with this either.
