I’ll take monologues people chronically ignore and are very much not biblically accurate for 100

Not the lack of Biblical accuracy… Anything but sacrilege.

been jamming a bunch of the top j cole tracks after reading the last few pages

the sideline story tracks i checked are actually quite good?????????

all in all... i think the idea of "middle child" is so funny in the context of all the big 3 talk. drake and kendrick are on two polar opposite sides of the spectrum. cole's appeal is that he is perceived as an everyman that can be both at once and places himself right at the center of said spectrum. this allows him to appeal to the absolute widest net of hip hop fans possible. the only people he truly alienates are the terminally online people who never go outside (aka us)

If there’s one thing worse than biblical accuracy it’s people making their own version of the Bible. I’d rather be in a regular church than, for instance, a Christian Science church.

Especially because Kendrick definitely thinks he speaks for christianity

I said in another thread that he’s got a God Complex, but I don’t think that is fair. It’s more of a Prophet Complex.

if his idea of spiritualality is based off the color of your skin, then it is problematic

agree with this man. the insane praise and vitriol just doesn't make sense to me. not bad stuff usually with some standout moments but never really a full project. i still think he has potential for something great. i hope he can put it together one day.

Agree with that last paragraph. Aside from this, nothing I’ve heard from him has ever been offensively bad, again, as someone that’s not super familiar with his entire discography, I do think he legit has a great record in him. Maybe not a TPAB or a GKMC but records that good don’t come along often.

The more I look around at the reactions the more I think this guy is somehow both underrated and overrated at the same time. His stans make him out to be the second coming of Christ but his haters say that he’s got no bars.

Clearly neither are true.

imo i think cole ultimately suffers from being too nice and sincere of a guy. dude just doesn't really have that dog in him idk how else to describe it

like i've never been able to take the first person shooter / middle child "i'm the best" type stuff seriously from him. he doesn't come off convincing to me at all. stuff like no role models and wet dreams feels like way more his lane, but still just sounds corny to me more than anything.

say what you want about drake... but when he raps about being the goat or the next mj or whatever... i am 100% convinced he really believes that.

as demonstrated by this lame ass beef lol. i think he's a pretty good storyteller and pretty genuine in his sentiments but yeah a bit corny at times. cardinal sin for many but i don't mind. he probably is a nice dude.

@nol- There are a ton of problematic points in those lyrics. I just thought it was kinda funny to focus on the issue of not being an accurate representation of the Bible. Every Bible thumper that only speaks English is just as inaccurate.

I agree with his everyman appeal. That's why his arc of declaring himself "the best ever" for the last three or so years has really been grating. He obviously wasn't playing into his strengths. I think Forest Hills and Born Sinner are quality projects, although I do think that this Brag Arc has been so detrimental that it's called into question a lot of his past questionable bars.

That being said, I do still feel comfortable calling Cole overrated. As much as I criticized this project for its obvious flaws, I don't think enough people talk about how painful of a project KOD was. I won't take anything away from this man's guest appearances -he really knows how to come through with an assist- but I just have been let down time and time again for a decade now with his solo stuff, and Might Delete Later is the straw that broke the camel's back

More power to ya, I believe Born Sinner is truly like one of the top 5 worst mainstream rap releases ever lol (Shout out Big Day as well)

Born Sinner gets some tilt from coming out during college for me, but it does have some great highs. Also some abysmal lows. But that kinda goes along with my feeling that Cole is still overrated lol
