Well I see you all talked about all there is on this album already now that I'm days late to the discussion. Summary is obvious heresy, their last album got them the most acclaim they've had since deliver us and the albums outside s/t are still worthwhile and even that has one or two good songs. This isn't a band that puts out bad music, they have a legacy and it really sucks this didn't do much for me especially considering the wait (obv covid played a big hand in their band restructure during but still)
kris norris was the lifeblood of this band and they have never recovered from him leaving [2] John Henry is the heart but Kris got the blood pumping.

I wouldn't. Jam undoing ruin or deliver us instead. Their last album if you want a newer album.

I'm just glad they're doing as good as they can this late in their career and haven't fallen far enough off that I'm wishing for another Deliver Us.
Basically they didn't Maroon 5 us and I'm glad.

My current rating of the tracks
Excellent
One With the Void
New Utopian Dream
My Only Regret
Great
Societal Bile
Amor Fati
Love is Fear
Mausoleum
Goddess of War, Give Me Something to Die For
Good
Perpetual Terminal
The Nihilist Undone
Meh
A Prayer to the Holy Death
I would say the a few of the "great" tracks move back and forth between good and excellent depending on my mood. The only track I don't really care for is "A Prayer to the Holy Death".

One With the Void (L) coming in on the same beat as Norma Jean's Nexus (R). The drums accent different points, but...

What if we move Void (L) one beat behind Nexus (R) so that the drums are almost perfectly in sync?

Pretty sure they recorded Void directly on top of Nexus.

normally i wouldn't...it's that staff badge that seemingly gives them an aura of "musical superiority" that just feels ick lol
I’m just glad it’s more “ick” now and less “go kill yourself” like it used to be.

One with the void does actually sound like a Norma Jean song, especially when the clean vocals kick in in such a similar way NJ would perform it. The solo is the only thing that really differentiates the track.
Boggles the mind people shit on the last NJ album still btw. Also how hawks called this scenecore

Drums are way too tech, agreed. Literally the opposite of what this band needs

Because the last NJ album was boring

The last nj was mediocre.
I don’t think Hawks knows what scenecore is lol. You don’t have to like Darkest Hour but I would never classify them as scenecore. (Also haven’t heard ANYTHING called scenecore since like 2012).

This isnt scenecore at all. Asking Alexandria to me is a good example of a scenecore band
