The more I listen to this record, the more I hear influences from RIO bands like Univers Zero (much more apparent than any lazy comparisons to DsO). There’s definitively Crimson influences with knotty ascending guitar lines, too (see: half way through Hungry Ghosts). Also, the ambient/clean sections (e.g. Surgical Utopian Love) are absolutely spectacular and have a spectral, hypnotic quality that really elevates the album as a whole. It’s a big bonus to have such prominent bass in an album like this and the production in general is immaculate.
