Vocal-heavy bands run the risk of alienating people if the vocalist is, to put it lightly, eclectic. That's kind of the case here; there's no avoiding the dude, so if he's a detriment, the instrumentals don't really register as a consequence. The songwriting gives him a lot of space to work and builds payoffs around his voice, too.
