Surprised but also not surprised that most of the major outlets have given this an 80
Spitnikmusic.com keeping things REAL #nofilter

also bc i need to address this at some point but man jailbreak is a mind numbingly repetitive song i swear the chorus (which is pretty bland already) happens like 9 fucking times or some shit

ye with hindsight deadwood and jailbreak may not be the highlights that i thought they were, but their second halves actually do SOMETHING by way of shaking up the songstructures here (relative to the other tracks) that I was sucked in.

This is the only Shikari I have below a 4 besides The Spark. I think the boys are at their best with tunes like Rat Race, Arguing with Thermometers, Anaesthetist, etc. but I get they don't want to scream as much anymore and that's fine since I think some of their best songs are softer, like Johnny Sniper, Fanfare for the Conscious Man, Wall, Warm Smiles, Stalemate, and Marionettes. The issue is this just feels wholly uninspired and like they're going through the motions.
I know I said it in my last comment but I can't get over how lame Rory's guitarwork is on here. He's always been a huge element of what makes their sound work and I feel like just about everything on this album is him playing repeated quarter notes on a single string. This is the type of album critics jizz their pants over just because it's different from what other bands are doing but it's not up to the Enter Shikari standard.
I'm a little extra bummed because they haven't released an album I absolutely love since The Mindsweep. 8 years is a long time.

Enter Shikari hasn't been metalcore since Take to the Skies (with some exception on each album). I'm plenty with the times Flug.
The Spark is whack but I've talked about that enough here so I won't iterate further on my unpopular opinion.
