I think I like Julien Baker more than ever after hearing this
The music video of “Not Strong Enough” and the trio of videos for “the film” are quite charming and do a great job capturing all their personalities. Only gripe is with Phoebe’s lyrics.. they’re just getting a bit old and are essentially self-parody at this point

"but "Satanist" def left a bad taste in my mouth,"
Yeah that song is dreadful

The anarchist verse drives me crazy. Politics as aesthetics at its worst
|
| |
I think the point of the verse is sorta "lol aren't I such a shallow radical-for-the-lewk" but my issue it that it's all just there for color, obviously it would be a completely different song than the one they were trying to write if they actually held the narrator's feet to the fire a bit on that and I think the verse belonged in that song and not Satanist
Mostly I just hate the riff and the beat tbh they both have Beck Loser energy in a bad way

Can’t believe I hadn’t noticed “Cool About It” is basically “The Boxer” in disguise..
Also, “Not Strong Enough” might be my feel-good tune of the year

Good catch there, Atari! Definitely get The Boxer vibes from Cool About It, hadn't noticed until now despite the fact that the former is one of my favorite songs.

for a brief moment, during the first line of the verse it becomes The Boxer. it also becomes Hey There Delilah for a brief moment around the 1:09 mark
|
| |
but overall not overly reminiscent of either and a nice tune

"The anarchist verse drives me crazy. Politics as aesthetics at its worst"
Would have been absolutely hilarious if they replaced 'sleeping in cars' with 'not take showers'.

"We're in Love" is a masterclass of folk songwriting, Lucy knows how to cut deep.

Was kinda meh on this at first but it's really grown on me and will probably be in my top 5 albums this year. Also really opened me up to Lucy's solo stuff, which is absolute fire outside of her first album. My girlfriend bought Home Video on vinyl and it's such a vibe.
