"But yeah, a lot of the genre is just shit like this that sounds almost completely indistinguishable from other bands. This is a bit of a different case because the music is actually engaging a good bit of the time but the vocals are totally nondescript" first part is exactly how i feel about brutal death/slam/this new era of deathcore based on vocal insanity over actually being able to understand the words so i get that. vocals really help this album for me because Marcus is very emotive.

The last minute of Absence may be my favorite Marcus performance on this. Boy goes off with those lows

His lows are insane, but I want him to work more on his wild highs he does on Immolation

there are a lot of sounds present on this recording

"this new era of deathcore based on vocal insanity"
DUDE yes but ain't nobody ready for that convo yet
Breakdowns have become lame vocal exhibitions, they're not even heavy and get old after the first few times.

Don't even get me started on that one weirdo that promoted his band on reddit by pretending it wasn't his and then when they found out he was self-promoting they went crazy making fun of the dude. Lmao that was a riot. Never mind still working with CJ Mcfuckstick after what happened.
Lorna's album wouldnt even be bad if they just got rid of the gross overproduction and cut down on the breakdowns that aren't even in time with the rest of the song. There's some cool symphonics that don't get expanded on.

I enjoyed Lorna Shore more than I enjoyed this. It at least stood out to me. This started hot and then faded into indistinguishable blandness.
Gunna try again though. I think the genre may have just worn thin on me. Album made me wanna just turn it off and jam old ~2007 metalcore albums for the nostalgia.

Lorna breakdowns are infesting deathcore and I hate it, yeah. I love the crazy vocal performances in that genre, but the breakdown flex that basically derails the entire song is a fucking awful trend that had some novelty for maybe the first 3 times it was done.

Deathcore was better when people overhated it back in late 00s and early 10s

I just want to be able to understand what they're screaming about at this point. If I pull up a lyric sheet and still can't follow along it really takes me out of it and I might as well just turn on instrumental music instead. I get vocals can just be another instrument but for me they're a vessel for lyrical content I can connect with. And the breakdowns being like a completely different tempo and not being built into properly is just ridiculous.

Nah that Lorna Shore album was great for what it was and the vocalist is a beast
I like this album a lot and I think I like it more every listen
Not sure why we’re talking deathcore though, this album makes me think of The Dark Pool era Thornhill, Hollow Crown era Architects, Amos Venera, general good modern metalcore

I see a lot of debate over who's better, Marcus or Ben, but I've always been partial to Henry myself
