"imagine if Calvin Harris accidentally changed the length of every single measure in his Ableton session before he bounced it, and then continued his foibles by emailing the track to an Englishman named Ross Jennings instead of Rihanna with the subject line “thoughts?? ;))"

I am in a full on Haken phase right now. Feels good to return to an artist like this

@Odal

The album cut's choruses just aren't these soaring standout moments like on other Haken songs. That's how I feel about it. Most of their other albums are packed full of these moments and that's what makes them accessible and not come off as too much of a mind exercise.

Also it's true that these pure prog spaces can be nuts. Sometimes they even get their prog wrong, like one reviewer on a german prog website: "For many people Haken habe been like the children of Porcupine Tree." What the fuck? No! They're not really similar at all, if anything Haken habe been called Dream Theater light, because of the symphonic attitude of their early albums. The reviewer acknowledges that Fauna doesn't sound like PT, but the people he must be hanging out with don't seem to know what they're talking about.

It wasn't a well written review overall tbh.

Dude same, but I actually recently got into the band. Really loving them and feel stupid for putting it off so long.

Lol honnestly 4 tracks in and it kinda rules. While somewhat poppy it reduces the last 2 Leprous (or Soen) attempts to ashes.

I mean, while I lost interest in Soen's and Leprous' last couple of outings, these dudes are keeping things fresh, interesting, without looking they re selling out. maybe I was wrong about them in the past. And yep I put them in the same spectrum of musica.

Glad you love this like you do.

Nightingale is me favorite. This is the last song I sent to my dad to check out before he died a couple of months ago. I didn’t even send him music that often.

Yea, that's a special spot for that song for sure. It's a very good one at least

This is great stuff. Not quite as good as Virus, but much better than Vector and Affinity. Loving the vocal melodies on this one.
