Gonna skip Insomnium this go around as I'm not really a fan of new Enslaved.

Apparently Lilian was written for Argent Moon, but didn't fit so they held onto it for this. They also apparently questioned whether the uplifting vibe would fit with the moody darkness on here. In the end I think it was a good decision.

It's also so refreshing to hear Jani Liimatainen being utilized to his fullest potential on songs like Starless Path:

Dude is one of the most tasteful rippers in melodic metal.

Lilian is also the only song that ville friman has song writing credits on, so that kind of explains his weird absence on the rest

Surprised at how much people are liking this. Snoozefest for me on first listen. Probably my least favorite Insomnium.

Likely taking bottom spot in their discography for me as well, most of it just isn't grabbing me at all.

It's more cohesive and flows better than Heart Like A Grave, but the title tack on that album completely destroys everything on this.

And there's just like…no riffs man. Too many floaty "soft" sections and acoustic guitars…samey drums…

Production is on point. Idk. No feels at all.

Solid Insomnium, might grow to a 4 with more listens.

My biggest issue is the mix and sound. It’s so muffled. For these epics, a huge clear sound would help it no end. I’ve never found a problem with their production before

Sounds fine to me and I can be kinda anal about production. How are you listening?

I was one of those losing my shid over godforsaken. Witch Hunter is one of my least favorites. Heh

Listening thru apple music as I do with everything until I buy hard copies of my favorites. It’s not a deal breaker, I still dig these songs just an observation.

@Dungeon there’s others like us that are a bit funny about the production
