"I noticed a lot of people aren't too fond of the over-produced clean vocals, but for me it is the layering and studio magic that makes his clean singing tolerable on this."
Honestly, I have to agree. Compare this to his singing on Sounds of a Playground Fading and I find this much more listenable. I'll take these overproduced cleans over that half-scream-half-sing thing he was doing in the late 00s and early 10s any day. I just wish his singing was dialed back a bit.

I don't agree with a lot of the comparisons to other bands or people comparing Anders to Jonathan Davis, mostly because I knew this guy back in the day who thought The Jester Race was their sellout record. Everything else seems pretty tame compared to that take, lol.

Yoooo what is it, 2008 again? In Flames are good? Checking this out later. This is certainly unexpected.

Hmmm I’ve heard these riffs before.
State of Slow Decay is very Blinded By Fear

Agree that a lot of the effects on Anders' voice are necessary to make him palatable, but I still don't think he sounds great. His growls are much better.
This is the first time in a long while that he has been tolerable to me, so that's something at least.

give them all to me
honestly i dont think any in flames song previously had as much focus on the bass as cynosure has, plus it might have the best chorus on the album and the drum solo is rad as hell. such an awesome song!

Pleasantly surprised by this.
I, the Mask was very mediocre but a definitive step up from Battles and Silent Charms (which I consider their worst album by a wide margin).
This seems to continue that momentum and I would say their best and on par with Sounds of a Playground Fading and Soundtravk to Your Escpape.
Still a step below Come Clarity and galaxies away from their classic run of Jester Race through Colony, but at least they're trending in the right direction.
Still, much prefer The Halo Effect's freshman effort than this by a wide margin.

People think this is better than come clarity? What? I mean CC is basically a weaker Reroute to Remain but it’s still way better than this

Come Clarity wasn't good... Reroute was their last really good album before this.
|
| |
Reroute is their last truly great album I do agree with that. CC signalled the beginning of the end for them and it’s super fkn corny a lot of the time but it still has some catchy and fun songs like Take This Life, Vacuum, Versus Terminus, and Vanishing Light.
