I had a listen to the instrumentals earlier today, definitely helped a bit. There's still multiple things fighting for your ears' attention, but without the vocals it's just about doable. Doesn't mean this album is no longer shit, though.

I really like Long Nights in Jail and Back on Deck, they should've done some more shit like that instead of going on auto pilot. The songs I dig are Synergy, Holy Ghost Spirit, Polka Dot Dobbins, Long Nights in Jail, and Back on Deck. The rest are either just fast food serviceable dgd tracks or they go in one ear and out the other. Current Events lyrics are so bad lol, Tilian's lyrics throughout most of this are egregiously bad especially given what happened

I think it's easy to see why this is the breaking point: their singer is an assaulter and their bassist died. One of these events would be enough to take stock on the state of the band, both are absolutely gonna do it.

The DGD fanbase has shown their whole ass with this affair though. At first, their subreddit seemed at least kinda split but now it's full-blown Tillian revisionism. It's truly sickening stuff. I truly would not be surprised if he came back now, as this band has really shown itself to have really shit judgement

Yeah the vocals are obnoxiously bad, even the harsh vox are super annoying, doesn't help much. Instrumentally this is pretty groovy for the most part. But it still sounds like they vomited a ton of ideas with no real direction. Bare in mind this is the first DGD album I've ever listened to, and I went in with an open mind. Why this is 18 songs long too, I have no idea?

A person or entity distances themselves from Tilian/the album for obvious reasons, or simply doesn't scream praises from the rooftops for JJ.

The entire DGD subreddit: "you know the bassist died after recording this right?" "This is so disrespectful to Tim"

Length in of itself is not an issue here, but it does set an expectation that a band has enough novel ideas to fill that duration. Many great bands can construct records that push the hour boundary; DGD are not even close to that level.

And the fanbase rallying behind questionable members isn't new, the subreddit seems very cozy towards Johnny despite the long list of shit he's pulled over the years. The cash will keep rolling in, why pull the plug on what's working?

it's the same reactionary event you always see. dude does something, people say cancel him, other people basically say "don't tell me what to do" and double down on their support.

First DGD album in my ~13 years of being in the fan that I have not checked out right away. ArSe and AB were lame and this sounds like more of the same

This is far from their worst but par for the course at this point. Not defying any expectations.

I find it weird that people can enjoy this, knowing that the lead vocalist is a rapist (and please don't say innocent until proven guilty: there's a Reddit post he made where he essentially admitted to it, not to mention accusations from multiple women)

I mean, I really like his voice, and loved other DGD albums, but I can't listen to him anymore, it doesn't sit right. I find it hard that others can - ostensibly - just ignore this. And it's not like his crimes were something distant, decades ago...it's stuff from this year!

"other people basically say "don't tell me what to do" and double down on their support."

these people are, essentially, morons. Their thinking is literally 'I like him therefore I'm going to choose not to believe obvious facts, because I like him and don't want to believe them'. It's the most biased, intellectually weak form of thinking

It's pretty simple, really. Lots of people are willing and able to separate art from the artist without guilt.

Idk if this is better than AB, at least AB had memorable moments albeit for bad reasons. This is just so toothless and forgettable.

Also, anytime you criticize Tilian to fans, the common response is “Tilian isn’t the whole band, etc.” yeah, except Tilian is the frontman that they have on hiatus instead of booting, and his poorly-aged lyricism are painted over the whole thing.
