I enjoyed being pulverised by this more today, things are starting to develop. There are so many layers to the more cacophonous passages that I bet there’s an absolute ton of stuff I’m missing… think I even heard a melody today
The aesthetic is satisfying and is an easy selling point, that comes first and I’m hoping the songs start to take shape later (like Alphaville).

Love that tune but Tower and Merkurius are going really hard right now, full on bromance.

“Spoon fed! Lol it's their artistic choice and design, i don't really see why you should strip anything from it.“
Not what I was suggesting. I was saying the music itself isn’t evocative of the things he mentioned on its own, the connection made to urban decay yadayada is arbitrary and brought forth by the imagery, titles and statements from the band. Like, put an apiarist on the cover and people would be like “wow, genius, sounds exactly like a swarm of bees” lol

My minor grip with the band is that they look and feel too russian for New yorkers

tbh it's not nearly as much of a logic leap as you consider it to be. Their usage of dissodeath and jazz creates a very disorienting and dark atmosphere, as if everything around you is crumbling and you're stuck in a state of constant confusion. You can feel that if you drive through parts of cities/urban areas where life just seems to be utterly falling apart.
Does their image help? Yeah, but they're not exactly the only culprits of that (why else do albums have covers/concepts/etc.?) and the sound they create isn't far removed from what they're aiming for to where I'd take issue with it.

They’re not culprits of anything, their art/imagery is cool, but people are kidding themselves with all the superlatives they’re throwing around like this is some masterfully composed classical stuff.

Hum it has this free improv jazz vibe all around so I m not sure about compositions..def not what this is about.
I don t even dig free jazz but this manages to be has engaging as repulsive and it settles to the oppulence and decadence at the same time they are trying to show (successfully me say)

I mean, it is really well composed? And like I said, their atmosphere can be applied to their image/intent without seeming forced or jarring.

Ghandi dude bro, I said its the vibe. Go look up some interviews and they state often that their compositions come from free improv attitude. Even if they re playin exactly like in the album.
