Think it's evidence the new one will be their most commercial/mainstream - but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, probably time.
'Favourite' isn't as good as the lead single, it's a bit familiar, a bit Bloc Party, but it's certainly still decent enough and has a bit of spirit (spirit of the '90s maybe ) in there.

Comparing the first 2 singles from Romance and this, I do prefer the moodier atmosphere of Jackie and I Love You, but they're going for very different sounds and I like the new ones a lot
I know they joked about Skinty Fia being a disco album before it was announced, I think after the dejected sound of A Hero's Death and the gothic moodiness of Skinty Fia they just needed to do something different/brighter

this has its moments - its mix of landfill indie and flabby goth-lite falls flat a lot of the time, but they tap into something substantive (t/t, Roman Holiday, I Love You) once in a while. not exactly a mandatory catchup imo
