Oh shit, this is out lol? For some reason I thought this was dropping at the end of April, gonna check it out right now

First impression is it's pretty good. The last single had me worried but thankfully that's probably the weakest song on the album for me.
It feels like they went in a slightly less proggy direction compared to Damnum. The riffs and Ezra on vocals again definitely remind me at times of those first few Allegaeon albums.

yeah Driftwood is easily the worst song on the album, it's really the only one that has that mainstream metalcore appeal to it

New album is solid, despite the cover

Tech nerds need to jam Dark Matter (new one)

Honestly as far as the singles go, Driftwood's metalcore chorus is kinda weak but I actually kinda hate The Swarm.
Between the "zany" main riff and that random whistle blowing / annoying scream at the end, it's just awful

Lol that's wild man but ig I get it
The Swarm could seriously be my new fav Allegaeon track,I absolutely love how dizzying and punchy the riffs are and that it a culminates into a genuine pit inducing ending

| |
Yeah after seeing the video for that song, that definitely seems like the energy they were going for

You spew untruths
In fact it may even be their best
It may even be better than you my fellow rodent comrade

As someone who never listened to this band at all, would starting with the new album be bad start or should I look elsewhere first?

Hmm
I think it's definitely the most punchy and high-octane they've been but it's not necessarily a stylistic outlier so tbh I think it's a good intro although the best one may very well be Elements of the Infinite for something that encompasses the spectrum of their sound more

I'll definitely give the new one a go and work through their discog then. I've been intrigued with them for awhile but just never got around to listening to them.

honestly their latest album might actually be the best way to start if you're new. it's their shortest and arguably most accessible album while also fusing their earlier tech style with their more recent prog side so I think it really works out.
"In fact it may even be their best"
eeeh I still say this is their best album, but it still rules
|

"it's their shortest and arguably most accessible album while also fusing their earlier tech style with their more recent prog side"
Yeah that's a good way of putting it, it does feel like they toned down the prog elements a bit and focused a little more on their older "strictly tech death" style here.
This album is solid but I will say there's no major "wow" moments / songs for me here, at least after the first few listens

I really disliked the latest album. More like Allegaeoff. Production is so muddy and it's streamlined so it's kind of boring if there's not a cool riff going on. I almost never skip and I had to skip like three times because shit's lame. At least Driftwood is an outlier.
Start with Apoptosis or Proponent. This one if you like proggier stuff with pointless clean vocals.

I've only heard the first 2. Debut rules but Formshifter is super mid. About to jam new one now.

@pyro
Muddy production? Tbh I'm not sure if brickwalled and muddy are used interchangeably but I'd absolutely say the album has p good clarity and each instrument can be heard distinctly even if it's definitely cranked out on the loudness factor
|
| |
I heard a couple singles here and there, are the cleans that prominent in most of their work? I can't say I'm a big fan of the cleans but instrumentation sounds good. I'll be checking them out regardless pretty soon.
