It took some time for me to come around to the last LP and I suspect this will take even longer, if I get that far. I really dig how earnest and introspective the lyrics feel but might have to accept I'm just not big on most of their actual music. I've listened twice and its sincere sounding but nothings really grabbin me, and it gets so, idk, sappy in parts. I'll come back to it again though I'm sure.

There's some alternative dance beats and synths on this that were unexpected but sound really good

Listening now. Super excited for this, especially if it's -better- than their last one.

Yeah. Nearly done first listen and it's still fantastic. It's lacking the raw intensity of the previous album but it's still very heartfelt and real like its predecessor.

A brilliantly agreeable review of a band I’d never even heard of as an Aussie until right now. This album is captivating me on every level!

It's incredibly catchy and melodic. Plus his VOICE

and he lied about that too

I am very curious to see how some of these songs play live without the intensity of the GFIL/Positions bangers

the second half of this album is just unreal on repeated listens

After a couple listens, I still can't totally shake the feeling as on their previous stuff that this is all a bit too calculated, but fuck me if "You In Everything" isn't a really touching song.

You In Everything is basically a perfect tune and definitely the best thing here, but there's a lot of gold throughout

yeah I really like that opener, the chanting adds a lot to this album for me

I do think if I open my cold little heart this could work some magic on me. Like, on paper "The Angel of 8th Ave" should come across as a pretty shameless National rip fused with super tropey heartland rock, but yeah that's a great song too. I guess I'm less cynical than I was ca. 2016. Rowan should be proud of me.

The lyrics of the opening song make me well up a little. Especially the last few lines.
"We held you in your bed.
We washed you in your sheets,
And sang you hymnal from the Islands
'Til you drifted off to sleep,
Then I kissed the hands that raised me for the lat time
And started out into the street."
