“I really enjoyed Celestite from WITTR, which is a record I think is largely ignored in their discog. Nobody looks back and says oh yeah they are great, except that super boring ambient album they made.”
Yea I agree, that one is really good. Also the two ambient/dungeon synth albums Paysage d’Hiver did are amazing

this is straight up tangerine dream style progressive electronic. i guess you can get away with calling it ambient but that’s not really a good descriptor.
initial listen makes it obvious they know what they’re doing and crafted this with care, but right off the dome I can think of at minimum 5 bands that do this same thing way better.
definitely gonna keep listening tho. albums like this usually take a few spins to really sink in.

for the ambient heads in here, what would be some good intro albums for a newcomer to the genre? Ive listened to sunn 0)) but thats about it

There are so many different styles…try any of these and see what you like. Then take it from there:
Brian Eno, Fripp & Eno, Midori Takada, quite a few tracks by Apex Twin and Oneohtrix Point Never (especially his early material is quite spacey), Boards of Canada, Tangerine Dream, William Basinski, Huerco S. / Pendant, Tim Hecker, Max Richter (e.g. Sleep), Fennesz, Stars of the Lid, Dedekind Cut, Kankyo Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990, Visible Cloaks, some tracks by Burial

Sweet bb therm’s some good artists fo sho, but if you recommend a million things to someone new to the style, it’s barely a recommendation at all

I like some of those artists listed, but couldn't get into Tangerine Dream for some reason
should probably try again

Ha, Sorry…was difficult to decide. I’m fairly new to posting here.
Well, in that case, I would also go with the Tangerine Dream album, and really try the early Oneohtrix Point Never albums if you like the spacey synths. Zones Without People, Russian Mind and The Fall Into Time

Also Klaus Schulze, hard to go wrong with any of his early stuff. Moondawn, Mirage, Cyborg, and Timewind are all awesome. Kontinuum is a really good example of his later stuff too

Lets be honest with ourselves.... like really honest. If this didn't come from one of Death Metal's most coveted names nobody would even throw this thing on other than to have on in the background while doing homework etc...
