"Hurts to Love" sounds so robotic and formulaic to me, barely a song, probably the weakest here.

^ it also legitimately sounds out of tune

Hurts to Love has a great melody and poppy innocence. For me it is an end of album highlight and the Valentine's Day release was awesome. Nice to see Beach House having some fun.

Hurts to Love is terrible yh, but the ol "bad hooks vs no hooks" question means Finale is very slightly worse

How come no one's mentioning illusion of forever as a standout except for me

Illusion of Forever is magnificent - it's just that there are so many other standout tracks it can be forgotten sometimes. And Finale is the perfect follow-on song.

Really consistent yea, just wish they’d vary up the tempo or get a little darker at times like 7 did to get some variety going, but it’s all really lovely stuff.

Ugh I’m really struggling to form a solid opinion on this, some songs I’ll really enjoy one spin, then will float right by me on the next.

Yes, it really is. And every time I listen a different song jumps out and hits me all over again. There really isn't a weak moment.
|
| |
okay but why are Blonde Redhead on the suggested artists list
they have like one comparable album (which is admittedly better than 87.5% of beach house b u t s t i l l)
|
| |
well but that loyic they can't be on the similar artists tab can they

br are a ripoff of like 20 different bands choose ur fighter

This already lost its luster a little. Still shimmering gorgeous beauty that I'll appreciate every time it's on, but it still mostly feels like Bloom melted and smoothed out. All the ingredients are the same, but it's just less palpably there for me to feel and relate to. Solid 4/weak 4.5 range for me right now, I think.

tried jamming this today and got fed up at the halfway mark. bummer
far as im concerned the last truly notable bh album was cherry

I'm on this exact camp, can't decide yet whether this is bloated or not, doesn't help that the highlights are like stupidly high

Dropping a 3.5 on this (the same rating as Bloom FWIW, which I'm thinking this is the most like out of their discog as well). It definitely has its moments, and it is a solid, enjoyable listen throughout, but on the whole it's just a bit too ~fluffy~ to really stick with me in the way the best Beach House material does. Maybe it'll work its way into my heart over time...
