me and john have been friends for like 10 years dude! he's amazing both as a drummer and a person. absolutely love him. ♥

both his marsh dweller records kick ass. he put SO much into his debut, it was such a passion project of his. i'm so proud of him for both his marsh dweller records.

y'know... i feel like the feedback i've seen is honestly a complete tie. there's no consensus for the best song so far. perhaps a slight lead for chasmal fires?

i think astral mariner will be the slowest burner for some. it's certainly the moodiest and takes the longest to open up to people i think.

I knew I'd love this from the moment I heard the viola, and the cliffhanger suspense of those thunderous drums, then the sharp inhale before it all plunges into darkness. Also the fem vox are a breath of fresh air. Also the whole song rules. Also the album does too. Also...

Some of the screams on Astral Mariner give me chills. I've only listened to 9 or 10 black metal albums ever, lol, but this is prob my favorite since I first found out about The Mantle back in 2010 (oh, and Allelic - another incredible sput-user project I nearly just forgot about!). Anyway, just purchased this from bandcamp and am excited to jam it for the rest of the winter.

It really is. I'm also impressed how many times that main melody is repeated but somehow never overstays its welcome

"Chasmal Fires is just unreal" I used exactly the same word some pages ago haha, it's perfect.

i think the thing i like about that melody is that it's so simple but it rang in my head for years and years when constructing the song. i knew it had to be the melody the song revolved around. there's subtle variations in the way it presents itself, naturally, and i think it makes the melody feel different every time you hear it during the song's runtime. i think it's a testament to how presentation can make such a difference.
