"The decision to entitle an instrumental dead-air interlude “Neptune Raining Diamonds” is a particularly winceable example of the metal band learning to speak grown-up poetics at play here."
lmao fuckin burnt to a crisp. awesome review.

Mombasa is worthy of a *chefs kiss* its such a perfect song. The most fun way to close out the album and possibly hint at the next album's direction. Especially with the absurdly abrupt ending, it makes me feel like they're leading into something even bigger.

Fear, it’s funny you think that this is overproduced and instruments get drowned out because I feel that way regarding their other material. Particularly the vocals. I can actually hear the vocals on this, and feel no instrument is drowned out. Perhaps it’s the synths that are bothersome?

Is it bad that I kinda don’t want them to go back to metal? Like we already have Sunbather. I kinda want them to keep playing with this sound or idk fuck, do a hoedown throw down. I love everything this band can do. But I don’t want them to completely revisit their old material. They’ve spoiled me with their versatility.

"am I crazy or does this sound overproduced"
It definitely has a lot of effects going on especially on the vox. I'm fine with it and I think it fits the music. Drums are very punchy which I guess some people might think is a bit much but I like it. The bass sounds sex on this as well

I’ve been wondering if they’ve redone the bass on The Gnashing because it sounds even more sexy than it did when that single was released.

"is it bad I don't want them to go back to metal?"
Nah man, like what you like. This shows they know what the fuck they're doing when it comes to shoegaze/post Rock. But they're also really damn good at metal, I'd be down with the next album blending both these styles

Happy for this to be the non-metal album in my rotation for a while. Good album

I’m actually with you on this. Sunbather and NB were perfect records for me, but this got me excited again.

Only weak link in this for me is the vocals. I can't understand half of what he is saying and his timbre isn't totally to my taste. I really like the melodies and how they fit into the mix, so it doesn't detract too much. Props for a screecher doing full on cleans

post punk qualities in his vox are one of the best parts of this, and not being able to understand the lyrics is a huge secret plus. be grateful
