I mean yeah I can hear portions of Gaslight all littered throughout this and that track for sure

The Killers haven't entertained me since...2005-6? So this is surprising to see. Good review, definitely giving this one a chance some time later.

I always felt the same way Nomos2. Liked Hot Fuss, loved Sam's Town, then they fell off a cliff. I pretty actively disliked Battleborn, Wonderful Wonderful, and their Christmas compilation, so it wasn't until last year's Imploding the Mirage that I sensed a bit of a resurgence in them. Even after that album (which is good btw if you haven't checked it), I just assumed they'd plummet into mediocrity again. I never, ever thought I'd be calling a Killers album in 2021 their very best, or an AOTY contender. It's truly remarkable.

I'm so happy with this album being real. Also, listening to Implode is somehow even better now. Kinda the other side of this one's coin.

Yeah that and Sam's Town are both excellent rock albums packing Americana vibes
This one just feels more raw and honest though, like real America instead of made-up towns and generic red/white/blue & 4th of July tropes.

Funny you should mention it because I also just bumped Sam's Town to a 5. That album is more fun musically, this one is way more bold & uncompromising.
My discog ranking right now would be: Pressure Machine > Sam's Town > Hot Fuss > Imploding the Mirage > Day & Age > Wonderful Wonderful > Battleborn

awesome! Sam's Town was a huge deal for me back in the day. A very easy 5. =)

That album and The Black Parade soundtracked my first semester of college, so they're both pretty ingrained in my mind along with those core memories. =)

damn just now seeing Phoebe Bridgers is on here

she's pretty underutilized on that song IMO, so don't go into it expecting a Phoebe song
album is some damn gorgeous Springsteen Nebraska worship though, incredible mixture of heartland rock/Americana and Killers tune-sense, you might want to check at least the embedded review track even if you're not huge on the Killers (I don't see them anywhere in your ratings)

My discog ranking right now would be: Pressure Machine > Sam's Town > Hot Fuss > Imploding the Mirage > Day & Age > Wonderful Wonderful > Battleborn
Top four are easy picks. I honestly have never heard the other three. I should give em a shot someday.

I've honestly never heard a bad feature from her though. At least she's a solid female background singer. My favorite track she's been on was the one on MOTM 3 for Kid Cudi. Beautiful collaboration.

full disclosure: I can't name a single Killers song besides Mr. Brightside.. but I always thought that was a jam
giving this a shot due to the hype tho. feels like a grower so giving it time to settle in. I think Cody might be an initial standout for me

Pressure Machine > Sam's Town > Hot Fuss > Imploding the Mirage > Day & Age > Wonderful Wonderful > Battleborn
This similar for me but I gotta still give the nod to Hot Fuss cause it is seminal for me. So mine would be HF > PM > ST > ItM > D&A > WW > BB

I think Quiet Town or Desperate Things are still my favorites.

Yes same. I have to give number one to hot fuss because it's the more important release though Sam's Town is probably better.

God this keeps growing on me. Amazing review, Sowing.
I was raised Mormon, including going on a mission with the white shirt and nametag and everything (I only left the church a couple years ago). The religious references here really draw me in, even just the subtle line of hands being placed on the head (which is how Mormons do several ordinances--giving the gift of the Holy Ghost and doing priesthood blessings).
"But the Kingdom of God, it's a pressure machine / Every step, gotta keep it clean"
If there's a single line on this album that stands out to me, it's this one. What a perfect way to describe the overall Mormon subculture. The Mormon Church refers to itself as "the kingdom of God on earth".

I can understand putting Hot Fuss as #1 considering its widespread influence. I'm long tired of all those singles though, which is hardly The Killers' fault but it admittedly drops it lower for me compared to better full album experiences like this and Sam's Town.
@FuzzyThoughts: Thanks, really appreciate it :-) I'm not and was never Mormon, but I was raised Christian and still observe a lot of those beliefs to this day even if in a highly imperfect fashion, so a lot of this resonated with me as well.

last two Sowing 5's I heard were really good so I may have to give this a shot
