Everyone loves an underdog, the downtrodden mess of a man who’s beaten and bruised, fighting for his existence, communicating that in the only way he knows. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s relatable to many and powerful as fuck. It’s art. True art. Not learnt, just felt. Not taught, it just is. Pure, dark and ultimately oh so beautiful.

or the guy friends are gay

OR OR OR the girlfriend does this one really unattractive thing that only her BF doesn't seem to mind

OR your guy friend is your GF's brother

maybe they did the last time I had one, but none of them actually tried. Except Damon. And he was definitely the most downtrodden mess of a man I've befriended so my theory checks out (fuck you Damon)

I don't think any rational person actually thinks that, but I think it's just that this style of music seems more authentic to people when the people who made it fit in more with the typical idea of the "average person" and some people are maybe suspicious of it being contrived if they don't fit that mould for whatever reason. Not saying they're right, but I'd assume that's what the thought process is, especially in a time where this sound is becoming sorta trendy

"brb changing my Joanna Newsom scores to 1s and 2s"

bro how many poor people do you know that need to hire and pay 12 violinists, 7 violists, 2 cellists, and 4 bassists in order to make good music?

This was the real purpose of this band, to fuel these highly nuanced discussions between reasonable and passionate consumers of art

‘so I suppose now the consensus is that rich people don't struggle or face adversity of any kind?’

Of course they can, I didn’t make that distinction. People’s struggles aren’t necessarily financial.

So the consensus now is that rich people can feel pain but not write believable stories about it?
