Man these new songs suuuuuuuck. What the hell is this production? It sounds TERRIBLE.
Doesn't even sound like Citizen anymore either, just Mat Kerekes and friends. Don't think this new album is gonna be for me at all :/

Some of the new songs are sorta cool in their own way, but yeah it’s mostly a bummer. It’s mind boggling how far they’ve tried to drift from the As You Please sound. They really found their stride there and all the fans agreed. Then they were like….nah

Listening to Can’t Take it Slow right now and it’s really not bad. Maybe a 3.5 track. Overall I think it’s gonna be a really uneven album lacking highs but rarely being outright bad.

Hyper Trophy is the only single I remotely liked

Honestly, new one ain’t so bad. Feeling a 3.4 right now. Some of the non-singles are pretty dope. I’ll need to listen a couple more times to decide how I feel, but the first couple singles were definitely the worst tracks here. Still missing the OG citizen sound.

Lay Low, Needs, and Bad Company are a great 3-track run.

I think most of the tracks are easily likeable, but the best highlight doesn't even scratch the worst lowlight of As You Please. Very weird to digest, especially since I loved his solo album from this spring.
Options is a bop tho

Calling the Dogshit
(some of it is admittedly catchy but don't tell anyone)

Jay how is this a 3.0 but new one is 2.0? Honestly gotta say they’re roughly on par with each other, but I prefer the new one. Singles aside, I can’t genuinely talk trash about any of it

Strongly disliked it on my first listen, production is paper thin and the songs have zero punch to them. Snare tone and guitar tone are garage rock band level and Mat's vocal melodies are lacking. Just isn't my style at all, but tried being a bit more fair on my second run and there are some hooks that can't leave my head.
I do like Hyper Trophy and When I Let You Down is stupidly catchy. A 2 was pretty harsh but that's the As You Please fanboy in me saying "this sucks get Will Yip back in the studio"

The production is definitely an L for the most part. I think after 2 songs I get used to it thought and it stops distracting me

Though I wasn't happy with the departure from the sound of As You Please, I feel like LiYGW had a pretty unique sound - especially the first couple tracks which combine indie rock with the grungier Citizen sound. This, though, sounds like a 2005 British garage rock revival album (not good).

Funny, I’d say the exact opposite. LIYGW sounds like they want to be indie rock but can’t figure it out. Calling the Dogs sounds like they actually are indie rock now, which maybe comes with its own issues. But at least they sound like they’ve finally achieved whatever it is that they’re going for
