yes, the first thing I think of when I'm done listening to Knife Play is Jesse Lacey playing his shitty music and then flashing me on skype

Honestly, he might be onto something. Think about it, both artists specialise in crushing your soul and taking you to the depths of despair, making you feel uneasy by tackling taboo or confrontational subject matter etc.
The difference is Xiu Xiu actually do all of if intentionally. Oh and the other difference is that Brand New is about as enjoyable as being slapped with a turd-covered stick.

comparing something to brand new is like one of 5 no effort ways to prove that you’re either young and immature or old and a dumbass

"This is like if Brand New got aids and downed a gallon of nyquil to see if they could play good. Not bad, but that being said if this were Brand New this would be their best record yet."

Is it just me or is "Saint Dymphna" just a stone's throw away from "Get Up" off Forget?

They’re both in that realm of middling yet vaguely catchy + ‘where’s the divisiveness gone‘ Xiu Xiu. That’s what you meant, right?

I feel like half of the guest vocalists just do nothing at all to add anything beneficial. Would have been better if they took the best tracks and released an EP.
|
| |
Half the vocals just feel like extentions of Jamie's voice but tbh I'm here for it and @Demon nah both are solid tunes, but there's most defs some melody crossovers goin down there

I mean there's a lot of familiar moments on here, especially melodically. Sad Mezcalita is clearly cut from the same cloth as Petite and Sad Pony.

Idk I think the guest vocalists kill it pretty much across the board. It’s not like their pushed into the background, they’re just worked into the Xiu Xiu sound very coherently, which is so broad anyway that more often than not something with Jamie on it is going to sound Xiuy (and I’m carefully avoiding eye contact with Merzxiu)
Also there’s definitely some shared DNA ‘tween Dymphna and Get Up, slick catch. Pre neat out how they blossom it here into that gorgeous fog filled billowing curtain of a chorus, vs the more push-pull of Get Up (until that fucking impeccable instrumental outro at least)

Also if Dymphna doesn’t get credit has the straight up “you’ll make it through Hell” empowerment BANGER that it is I stg

I’m beginning to think that my ghost-3 (it’s coming), is actually a hot-take of apocalyptic proportions. I‘m seeing a lot of extreme opinions.
Edit: although tbf the bar chart looks kinda ‘normal’.
