"almost all these songs are dynamically stolid and melodically immemorable to the point of interchangeability"

There are some good tracks on here, but also some very average stuff. If this album had been trimmed to 10-12 tracks it would have been a lot better.

i've listened to every one of this band's albums, their b-sides (from 90 to 2000, at least) & other such unreleased material, demos etc

and after hearing the pre-release singles, to this day i have no desire to listen to this thing

I wonder if Silversun Pickups influenced this album in any way.

i have this album on vinyl, yet i am much too scared to listen to it for the first time. I heard the first 4 singles they put out this summer on Spotify and have listened to nothing since. They... were not good. And this review echoes my thoughts and amplifies my fear of setting aside an hour and a half of my life to spin the record and hear it all. Maybe I'll do it soon, maybe I never will.

With that said, the pink vinyl is GORGEOUS and i at least love looking at it.

i think vinyl might actually be the way to listen to it. It's so monotonous that getting up and changing the record might actually break it up a bit and give it some breathing room.

That's pretty much how I felt listening to The Astonishing by Dream Theater in full for the first time. I put it off for years because I didn't want to waste so much time on one lengthy mediocre project. Finally I sat down and listened to it when I revisited the band's discog in full and... yeah, it was just as much of a mistake as I thought it would be, lol

"I don’t think anybody’s really solved the riddle of how to make guitar music in the way that we make guitar music, other than just cranking the guitars up and having a wall of sound – which we were obviously doing 25 years ago."

Lots of lols in here: https://www.guitarworld.com/features/the-smashing-pumpkins-billy-corgan-im-a-firm-believer-that-the-distortion-signatures-of-a-guitar-need-to-be-organic
