Album is like a more somber, experimental Science Fiction. It's crazy this didn't blow up more in alt/indie-rock circles.

2 new singles off the upcoming self-titled album announced.

While the art direction looks like a continuation, the two singles don't come anywhere near touching this album and seem to be going a in a more upbeat by-the-numbers direction. My guess would be trying to reclaim some of the better marketability their albums up through 2014 had.

Will still be listening regardless when it drops, but not expecting much. Real bummer this didn't explode the way it should have.

I overreacted there.. Midnight Hour is a jam. I am likely just still salty this never got the recognition it deserved. I hope the new one turns it around since it is objectively more marketable based on these first couple singels.

I have to agree with your initial take. This album was depressed, experimental, a little spooky, and just all around haunting. The new tracks are decent, but I listened to them 15 minutes ago and I already forget what they sound like. Who knows, maybe they will grow and/or the new album will be excellent while placing the singles into context, but my first impression was that Halo of Hurt's atmosphere >>> whatever new direction they're taking.
