unfortunately big thief will always remind me of that one sordid affair in which i was recipient of tarot themed spotify mixes, desert solitaire, druidic brunch energy, mistakes miscalculations errors. same with vampire weekend and a host of other bands i’m happy to just let be. simulation swarm is great! that buck meek album hits at 5 am sometimes. and this too is quite fine! just can’t quite escape the Great American Indie religious paratext frequently imposed by anyone but the artist: one-liners handrolled into pillboxes for your health

Free Treasure is so intimate and gorgeous that I almost teared up oh my god
Also Vampire Empire is fine, Evol is the kind of hippie faux profound navel gazing that always finds Adrienne at her absolute worst

I'm seeing her in June and really stoked to hear some of these songs

Evol was one of my other notable "oh no"s for sure lol

Free Treasure is my favorite as of now. I agree about Real House, I think it works well as an opener and is objectively a good song but obviously not one I’m going to casually spin all the time. The aux cord is officially safe in my hands.

I have a hard time talking shit about Ruined, but it’s probably the least interesting song to me and I hate hate hate it when closers are released as singles

I don't ever listen to singles (besdies maybe once to check the sound) so I didn't even realize

Ngl new one seemed very weak to me on first listen, then again I don’t really fw this or abysskiss as much as many others do so perhaps this tracks.

I thought it was only blues albums where the dog dies on the first song?

Ok never mind the new one is very good - still gonna need a few spins to figure how much I like what each song’s doing, but they’re pretty much all doing something.

it’s one of the best albums to come out in a long time. a huge achievement

The first song is presenting a production issue to me: twice I got a weird uncanny valley feeling, from the scraped fiddle and her moving away from the mic. Somehow distracting because I know she’s oriented toward an aesthetic of raw mistakes but it’s starting to become too much an aesthetic
Love the verse about seeing your first scary movie

I think an aesthetic in music often takes an amount of conscious effort in creating and that song (and the whole album) is very distinctly pure and earnest
