This is their weakest album in like 22 years tbh

Yeah, might be their weakest since Themes. Gonna rejam Wars later and see if it holds up

Since both Themes and Wars are pure, mega huge 5.0s in my book I agree this is their worst LP in many many years.
To me it's their worst since Kveldssanger.

Nah, this and the previous one are their best stuff since Shadows

this is pretty much what I expected. it the same as the last album. 3-4 stand out tracks, the rest decent though nothing special.

that doesn't apply this time tho lol

Yeah one could argue this is the first time in their existence that it doesn't apply. It appears even wolves have to take a breather every once in a while.

im guessing their last album sold a lot better than their others? maybe they are finally sticking with the sound that gets them the most commercial success?

I listened to this again, then Assassination right after, then this again. Assassination comes off overall way more dynamic, unpredictable, stylish, and musically diverse. This may follow in that style, but it's more homogenous throughout. I don't think it tops any of their previous full-length releases, except Childhood's End, Terrestrials, or Drone Activity.

Hmmmmmm, out of all possible bands I would never suspect Ulver to do something 'because it pays well'. That so isn't their style, their way of thinking, I'd be very surprised if this was the reason.

lmfao implying that ulver is going to be raking in the cash for a product like this. no way.
and yeah talons same. kin of wrote assassination off a bit but after hearing this and then revisiting it, there's no doubt in my mind it's a way more diverse and exciting album

not raking it in, but people do like a depeche modeish sound. I think this will do well

Assassination is oozing with personality. Garm gives it his all with his singing performance as usual, whereas he's more chill and restrained on this one.
Ulver being more financially successful is great cause they deserve it and would maybe tour in the US so I can finally see them live. I just don't want them to fully stop their ambient side that's done so well on Shadows of the Sun, Messe, and ATGCLVLSSCAP.

exactly garm is amazing on assassination. he sounds so monotone here in comparison

I'm glad I inadvertently ruined this album for you with help from Gabriel (:

Ulver are tone deaf for 20 years, no sense of melody and writing whatsoever. This album only reinforces that.

Definitely disagree regarding their sense of melody, the last two albums have some great melodies
Garm has such a great voice
