astonishing level up for them
Sam's Town is one of my favorite albums but it has a lot of flaws and the new one is 10x better

Agreed 100%, man. Like I said in my soundoff, "Quiet Town" had my jaw on the floor and it just got better from there.

opener, Car Outside and Desperate Things are 7/5 but every single song is at least like a 4 or above

this got a little bit overhyped on the strength of a baller opening four-track run and being actually good after three albums of almost complete bin juice
it's still pretty good but PM outclasses it on basically every level possible, especially lyrically lmao
|
| |
will admit i had never read a single Killers lyric before PM and they are very good like 95% of the time
|
| |
PM is about 50% sharp writing and 50% lol is this good or is it a dusty dusty americana parody, so is it safe to presume this is entirely the latter ballpark

Album Rating: 2.5
new one is 100% a dusty americana parody
|
| |
nah this aint nearly as aw shucks pardner as PM if i remember correctly

Yeah new one is their best by a mile

the first Killers album will always be their best
new one is just Spruce Bingsteen without the charisma?
First song is exactly 50% 'Nebraska' and 50% U2 - it's well made but a bit 'why?'
Bit like when 'The Tallest Man on Ert' released 'Dark Bod is Home'

Nah it's a goodun and I won't be dissuaded ;-)

So far I'd rate 'Dark Bird is Home' higher in the Springsteen revivalism stakes, certainly more fun imo....and that album is much maligned for the most part.
I guess Tallest Man on Earth was seen as too serious for that approach with his Dylan'y stuff before...whereas The Killers have been floundering a bit before this so anything more consistent is welcome. Dunno, not blown away and country'ish stuff is my bag.
It's decent enough Tom Petty/Springsteen type songs with occasional U2/typical Killers stadium rocks moments mixed in. Feeling a 2.5

I think maybe the early tracks on this are better than anything on the new one but I did listen to the opening stretch on this album quite a lot when it came out whereas I've only skimmed this new one and nothing has majorly stood out - sounds consistent MOR rock but I get that 'consistency' might be what Killers fans have been starved of before
t/t is pretty nice

gotta love how the terrible P4K review just starts with 2 paragraphs worth of utterly shitting on Sam's Town, not biased at all lol

P4K has been a joke for at least 5 years
|
| |
probably longer than that but they manage to stink up the room more than usual sometimes smh

Highly doubt they'll ever top Hot Fuss but at least hope it tops this one for me
