Deftone I'll check the new one on your advice. This one was great but there was room for improvement. Still I remember I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Ok, gave the new album three spins already and I have my verdict:
It's technically impeccable, the drumming is awesome and it's got a really nice production, yet apart from that it didn't impress me much. I found it too derivative... It's to Death Metal what last Ad Nauseam's was for Disso Tech Death.
Unpopular opinion but that's it for me. Another 3'5.

That's a hot take, regarding Ad Nauseam latest at least - pretty unique in the world of disso-death for me
As far as this is concerned, I didn't think it was anything special either, but there's certainly promise here. I'll be checking the new one this week regardless.

Yeah my take on Ad Nauseam is very unpopular but I maintain it sounded extremely derivative of Deathspell Omega, Ulcerate and Gorguts :S

Hell yeah!
Its so pleasant for me how this manages to sound like Mastodon, yet very death metal. I sense it on the new one as well.
Tks for giving it a shot Frost.

New one is not bad by any means, same way Ad Nauseam is not bad at all. Both records are great and very listenable. I just think they don't bring anything new to the table. Well, Ad Nauseam's production was one of the best I've heard in Disso Tech Death for sure, way better sounding than any Ulcerate.

idk man, the songwriting and riffs on the new one are intensely creative. the way they manage to morph dissonant chug riffs into death style melodic tech riffs is pretty insane.
not to mention that they’re all masters of their instruments and play them with a really unique flavor.
new one is the best death metal of the year by my reckoning.

It's a weird feeling but I agree with everything Frost says about this band. I guess by 'new stuff' he means stuff that sounds really good.

“They play really well but the songs just sound like a bunch of random bits and parts. They just bounce all over the place each track section to section riff to riff with no real "base" to the track. They need to let it breathe a bit ease up a tad, throw in some hook riffs or something along that nature. I get they can play 500 riffs each track but it's inconsistent af and a bit to all over the place.”
I feel like you could apply this to a lot of dm but NOT the new FB. There really are hooks that are introduced and recontextualized later in the song. They aren’t just throwing random shit together

@Unclefrank
hard disagree since almost all songs have this filthy main riff that keeps coming back to. It has a spastic proggy nature but it keeps coming back. In other words - It slays!
I got that thing you say on the first track, yet tracks like Dehiscent or From the Bastion to the Pit are great examples of that more grounded writing.
