I’ve heard bugger all from ‘20 but this is AOTY, probably.

I would not hate this getting AOTY tbh

"@DDD I said the same thing to my buddy the other day when explaining why I liked Vile a little more - it was just so menacing and genuinely frightening to me. Can't quite put my finger on why that album did that, and this one doesn't. After another week with Alphaville, I think it has surpassed Vile for me, but Vile is it's own beast."
tks and cool take Faderjack...I guess I'll need to spend a bit more time with this one

yeah its probably leading the pack for me right now by a hairs nose over ulcerate. Maybe when the dust settles they will be head to head again.

This has so many incredible moments throughout... Atomic Age alone has them in abundance, quite literally draw-dropping stuff.

Don't you mean drawer-dropping stuff?

An experience of musical enlightenment.

The 2nd half of Atomic Age is the highlight of the whole record for me. God, this thing is still so good the hardest of 4.5's. I think Ulcerate is still just a tad better from what I remember. I'll have to listen to them one after the other soon.

i think this is a bit better than the ulcerate in retrospect
ulcerate's got a big wow factor but i've listened to this way more and it's just more fun and dynamic

‘The 2nd half of Atomic Age is the highlight of the whole record’ (2).
Also ‘Stare Into Death‘ is an excellent album but is difficult to compare directly to this one, I can see why it happens though... i.e. vague similarities due to the disso-death leanings and how both are held as beacons of innovation within the wider spectrum of music etc. Having said that I do prefer this, partly because it feels forcefully, almost unapologetically experimental and very much it’s own entity, whereas with Ulcerate (as pioneering as they undoubtedly are) their current evolution somewhat pales in comparison. Not to discredit their importance or former achievements, they peaked with EiF after all.

They peaked in fierce there...Stare peaked in class imo...I'm tempted to match the 5 I gave to EiF on Stare Into Death tbh.
I think the discussion only came in a metal aoty contest. Nothing more.

Yeah, I'm not saying they sound the same at all cause they definitely don't. It was more like which is gonna be my aoty for sure. They're still front running the year rn.

Sure, I was just saying why I’d pick this one, beyond a simple ‘I like the way it sounds more’ (that too, of course).

Loving this album. I think the only track that doesn't quite sit well for me is Happy Home. I know it's a cover but kinda wish it ended with the Experiment cover. That said, I suppose I can always skip that one.
