@Lord(e)Po)))ts: "to what extent/capacity does Taylor Swift actually "songwrite" out of curiosity?"

Just to flesh this out a bit, she does indeed write almost everything, at the very least the lyrics and the main melodies/hooks. She's actually documented her process somewhat on bonus tracks where she recorded her initial song ideas/memos as well as a series of videos she made on the writing of Reputation (you can see these on YouTube). Besides guitar she also plays piano, and uses both to write songs. She then brings the songs to the producers/collaborators to help finish. She also has many songs she's written entirely by herself, including her entire 3rd album, Speak Now (which I agree with the reviewer is still her best). Here's one of her songwriting videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQgwZHPRu5M

Really need to listen to this more to really make up my mind. The 4/5 is really just provisional. First listen I really missed her penchant for hooks and dramatic songwriting and variety, but I understand she's going for a completely different vibe here. Once I got into the groove I found myself digging it, mostly from a purely aesthetic perspective, but I can't shake the feeling that it's all a little monotonous, and that Taylor Swift without pop hooks is like Thanksgiving without turkey or ham. Sure, you can still make a meal of it, but something crucial is missing. Some of the comments in this thread are extremely silly and rage-worthy. Too many people looking at music like it's fashion.

I wish pop artists realised this year that there's no always "something to celebrate" We need more "disintegration" and "closer" in our lives too.

People should learn to embrace the dark and rotten part of our lives and deal with it. It's not everything about chocolates and flowers.
