I am currently on vacation in Florida and the little house we rented has this pool out back and I'm gonna throw on some headphones and float around to the new album tonight when it drops at midnight. Looking forward to the serenity

New album is great. It doesn't impress me quite as much as Eons, but I do prefer its shorter length, and appreciate its cohesiveness.

In many ways the new one is even better than Eons. I love that the movements are so defined and that you can anticipate when the huge parts are about to unfold and then you know when the drone is gonna go long and you just sit back and let it happen for 12 minutes until you are smashed again.

yeah, it does jazz and drone and what have you but I’m kinda getting Neurosis vibes too, hmm (good thing obvs). The tribal ambient side of this is pretty cool. It works.

further musings pending… ?

Outlook definitely is good! (I checked again)

The latter parts are perhaps harder to penetrate, partially due to the enormous length (fatigue) but it also gets very trippy / psych. The eastern influences certainly add a tasty flava. Parts of this are very much in-tune with the more spiritual avant side of jazz (not unwelcome) because it do be rather ritualistic at times. It’s a lot to digest.

I enjoy the more tribal percussive parts / the rhythmic structures of the first third / half (I lose track!) but it kinda does mellow later on despite remaining unpredictably droning, swelling in and out of consciousness, almost

I will probably park this for a couple of months (unwieldy length / situational + headphones jam) and revisit with a fresh perspective, but am happy to bookmark this as wholly impressive, if occasionally overwhelming in its density. Currently offering bonus points for being such a unique experience. tbc

Beautiful, beautiful - I was almost certain you wouldn't/couldn't find a way to outright 'hate' this but am (pleasantly!) surprised to find you so immediately fond of it. Agreed w/ your microassessment, the most reverent and drone-forward segments are probably my least favorite, if I had to choose; not because they're bad or because I dislike drone/ambient, but because the other stuff here - the brutal prog, the free-ish form jazz, the tribalist beats - is so damn good. Very glad you carved out the time for this'n!!
