i know this is a very normie thing to say but i am really not into charli when she is being abrasive. i don't like how everyone calls songs that are almost purposely uncatchy the "future of pop" just because there's less commercial appeal.
"pink diamond" isn't abrasive per se but there just isn't much going on there. i'd much prefer the whole album to sound like "forever" instead

her abrasive cuts are hit or miss for me, but i'm not sure it's fair to call tracks like "pink diamond" and "click" (idk if you'll agree wit this one) 'purposely uncatchy' when their hooks are as relentless as her more sugary numbers'

but you're probably right. i know there are a lot of people who are very into that sound, so perhaps uncatchy is the wrong word in general. and now that i've made it further into the album, i can hear that "forever" is much closer to the general tone than "pink diamond" is.

I think she could've done with having the "abrasive" tracks scattered throughout for contrast, rather than having them as bookends. A song like "i finally understand" would've made for a nice payoff if it were preceded by something like the opener imo.

yeah, i agree with your replay value point. if she just wrote variations on "official" i'd probably be okay with it for a little while but it would get boring eventually.

My first full Charli album (only heard singles here and there prior)...
Got some serious Imogen Heap vibes throughout...
I also am less drawn the the abrasive moments here, not that they're bad...
Especially loved Forever and Visions...
Feelin' a light 3.5 but we'll see, I feel like I need to hear this in a setting other than my home office desk lol
