Yes, this is indeed an album by Dance Gavin Dance. Unmistakably so.

I have a feeling this album will be a grower and the more time people spend with it, the more they'll like it. No **ahem** Instant Gratification here.

Funny how people are saying Born to Fail is where the better second half starts and the first lyric from Mess is "only bangers from now on"
|
| |
Hahaha I just realized that. He's got a point.
Second half of this destroys the first. Into the Sunset is a pretty weak closer though. Still, I kinda like it

Into the Sunset might be the weakest closer throughout their discography.
Looking at them more closely, I definitively say that it is the weakest:
Man of the Year > Lost > Evaporate > Purple Reign > People You Know > Powder to the People > Burning Down the Nicotine Armoire > Turn Off the Lights Pt 2 > 12 Hrs, 630 Miles > Into the Sunset
Though Will goes hard.

Deathstar closer is people you know and it's actually the best I'll have you know.

Into the Sunset feels very phoned in which is extremely odd considering it's the closer
|
| |
sunset is their best closer since people you know

Evaporate was super solid. The dbm closers are the weakest imo
|

Into the Sunset is atrocious
their worst closer (and possibly song) by far

I genuinely like Bilmuri, but goddamn if Into The Sunset isn't the worst closer by a landslide. People You Know > Purple Reign > Man of the Year > 12 Hours > Turn off the Lights 2 > Powder to the People > Lost > Evaporate >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The sounds of Jonny Craig overdosing > Into the Sunset

"Dance Gavin Dance by numbers"
So this wouldn't be the album to finally sell me on post-Happiness DGD beyond "eh, it's good i guess"?
|
| |
Aight for a sec I thought "The sounds of Jonny Craig overdosing" was an actual song on this

Well, yeah, but it's also a solo project of Johnny Franck (ex. Attack Attack!) who makes chill, lo-fi inspired post-hardcore. Sometimes it's excellent, other times it's meh. Here it was the saving grace of a trash song.
