This would be a hard 4 if not for the incredibly distracting amd downright grating vocal performance. Idunno man, maybe Nick should take some formal lessons

I don t know ..I still think they re kinda cool...they are excellent musicians with ears too...the vocals were never perfect...and I get that in here they are much more at front, but for me they give a punk attitude/vibe I dig...I m sure the choosing on not perfecting vocal performance overall has something to do with live acts. Like, if you think about it, if the dude sings like this live its really great.

The guys are from Massachusetts, but the guitarist/vocal moved to Berlin years ago. Their new drummer is also German. I think the bassist is the only one living in the US now.

agree with this. I kind of like it raw, makes it more personal in some ways. perfection in inperfection kind of thing. some of my favourite singers are ones that don't necessarily have perfect delivery, pitch and whatnot, but have great feeling and unique vocal texture. I do appreciate some really good singers too though ofc.

The vocals are too upfront for what they are. I think how they had them pushed back on previous albums was perfect.

I think that's the main gripe I have. I'd probably love this if they kept the vocals how they were. Who knows, they may grow... It's Elder, so I'm going to be jamming the shit out of this.

Never listened to Elder much. May have chucked Floating World on in the background once or twice but this is the first time I'm giving them a good listen.
Don't mind this. Music is jammy and vocals don't annoy me, so with a few more listens this might stick.

"epic swells start to form, but they just don't ride the wave like they use to"
Pretty much. Too much influence from Gold & Silver, methinks. Like, the 3:39 mark of In Procession is one of their best sections ever but it's surrounded by stuff that's too mellow.
Great album anyway but lower than the previous three.
