no yea samples in metal and hardcore have been used for 30 years so idk why you think cuz one band used samples and synths to layer would influence another band a year and a half later when they planned on using those elements anyway. they both got the shit from bands like Slipknot anyway.

Forever brought nothing new to the table that hadn't been done already (and better, at that)
Still enjoyed it for what it was, though

Just because you took influence from another artist doesn't mean you are not innovating within your scene. Often innovating can mean culminating and popularizing various sounds into something fresh. Everyone is talking like Forever wasn't important in the hardcore scene for better or for worse. Code Orange was literally recognized on a mainstream level and nominated for a grammy. Regardless if you think it was good or not, that album made waves.
The fact that you think this stuff is as basic as just layered samples and synth, proves my point about how ignorant people are to what actually goes into this band's sound.

grammy's are irrelevant lol. I'll give it you that synthesizing existing sounds can sound fresh but that doesn't mean it's innovative if it's already out there. sure they made some waves cuz of new fans/haters but that's buildup from them being sludgy converge-worshipping hopefuls years ago, they've been nothing but disappointing since.
"The fact that you think this stuff is as basic as just layered samples and synth proves my point"
look who's simplifying what now, reread what you typed

I haven´t listened all the album, but what I´ve heard in my opinion is pretty decent. I can understand the bad reviews are complaining that they may have turned softer. It could be true but they are still heavy and sharp. It may not be your cup of tea,but it seems pretty enjoyable, at least.

Even if Code Orange was/is influental within the hardcore scene, that scene was stale af for years and near (musical) irrelevance tbh. So yeah, adding some elements was definitely new to the scene as it was, but compared to other genres it is nothing special that Code Orange did.
|
| |
but then again: maybe people won't tag you with "hardcore" anymore if you reach a certain level of variety/experimentalism and that's why those bands that are left within the hardcore scene, are mostly conventional.

lol I know that CO isn't everyone's thing but man so many downers ITT. How bout we talk about everyone's favorite songs/parts from listening so far? In Fear, You and You Along, Sulfur Surrounding are some of my faves right now. Also Last Ones Left...that ending! I listened last night with good headphones and man some of soundstage/mixing with the industrial parts is insane.

I... can agree with that.
The problem I have is that some songs just sound like watered down Slipknot singles while others actually have forward-thinking ideas for the genre and good song structure. But for the rock singles, I would argue that stuff like that is way better than what Billboard and other lists like it are considering "rock" nowadays.

yea sure, some standouts I can remember:
the weird industrial trip hop shit on the verses of "Who I Am" is pretty cool, same for Reba's vocals on that track (a given). "Cold.Metal.Place." is fairly mental as far as the heavier stuff goes, and "In Fear" alongside "Erasure Scan" are actually quite unnerving, and that's something I didn't really feel with Code Orange's music before. also "A Sliver" is one of their better closing/penultimate tracks, the weird laughter on the chorus kinda works with the overall mood even if I'm not big on the guitar passages on the chorus.

I'm still not a big fan of "Who I Am" but I can definitely agree with what you're saying. Every interview I watch where they explain the process they took when making this record makes me appreciate a lot of what they did on here much more than my initial reaction let me.

this better than most of the dunderheaded metal this site jocks
like fr how the fuck is beneath the massacre trending in 2020
they haven't even done anything new with their sound, it's just same shit different packaging
and back in the day that shit got torn to shreds... now metalheads are so desperate to cling onto their dying genre that even limpdick shit like that is praiseworthy [2]

i gave this whole thing a chance because i actually liked most of Forever. As far as this goes, just listen to "Erasure Scan" and move on imo.

In Fear fucking rules, that intro is sinister and negative
Cold Metal Place is some skull-crushing Godflesh type heavy
Who I Am is quite catchy and soft but gives me happy/positive vibes actually
