Right. Apologies for reviving this so late, with re. Sowing's comment on page 2
"The emptiness is meant to personify everything about living in the modern era: the meaningless sexual encounters, drugs, and dancing that you mention are coping mechanisms for hopelessness, a lack of a deeper purpose to it all when you can so clearly see the end on the horizon...What makes someone feel the need to live in a glorified past? A bleak future is certainly it in this case, which is part of NFR's charm: it's not an album that preaches politics openly or anything, it's political because it embodies the indifference and boredom of what really boils down to a group of generations that feel like change is beyond their reach."
This summarises my feeling on the album perfectly (as does the review, which is superb) but the cinch here is whether this portrait and these qualities actually instill any actual charm. Its subject matter and aesthetic are entirely appropriate, but I'm finding this as tedious, bleached and washed up as the culture it looks to scrutinise

This is a LDR album so of course it will come with some division in opinions/ratings (I think by default some people will either find her voice tedious or charming), but in terms of the actual songwriting - the melodies, lyrics, etc. - this is her best. It's also her most tangibly emotional/least "forced" sounding IMO, although I know that goes along with individual taste.

Most of the songs sound way too similar on this imo, but it's good overall

Doin Time is awesome, didn't even know it was a Sublime song but it's exactly what this album needs in the 5 spot.
