It doesn't sound nearly as "T-Pain goes indie" as 22, but it does have several songs that could have been good to great ruined by vocal effects and other random noises. There's nothing quite like 10 Deathbreast or 715 Creeks, both of which reside squarely in the worst songs of all time pantheon.

Time to jam Towers.

I wasn't a fan of 22 but ya'll are trippin thinking it was THAT offensive. I think this does a weird job balancing his self titled with 22 and I think it worked out a lot better than 22 did. Still doesn't come near For Emma

yeah y'all are being a bunch of weenies right now tbh. it's an album. some songs are good, some are nonsensical sandboxes of weird sounds and vocal effects. you're acting like Vernon himself groped you and called you a racial slur

Being called a racial slur doesn't bother me. Someone as intelligent as Vernon intentionally putting out shitty songs for God knows what reason does. The guy is immensely talented. There's no way he can legit believe the first 4 tracks on this or the majority of 22 is actually quality material, or something that should ever be released for consumption. Its astounding to the believe the same mind could conjure Blood Bank, Holocene, Re; Stacks, etc, and then put out shit like 10 Deathbreast and iMi. He has to be trolling.

I think Kanye happened, and then fame/attention didn't treat his brain too well, and he probably took some "enlightening" vacation and now he's just too far out there. Regardless, ratings & reviews still suggest that the majority of people enjoy his recent output (even if not as much as the old stuff). And I mostly agree...though I would love a return to form. I think this album is, to some degree.

I randomly blamed Kanye earlier in this thread, I think we're on to something. Kanye is another example of someone capable of genius putting out monstrously shitty material just to placate his ego. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of the best albums I've ever heard, of any genre, and I despise the man, so the admiration is legit. I'd rather listen to Rhinos fuck than the rest of his discog, save The College Dropout.

Have to say, considering the vitriolic commentary, this being a 2.5 for you seems rather generous. I would've thought lower.

I'm giving him a half point for past genius. That and there are 3 good songs here. Thats one more than was on 22.

It might grow on me, who knows. It's not as bad as 22, although that isn't saying much. I just really love the good songs he writes. His 10 best songs are 10 of my all time favorites. They're impactful, memorable, gorgeous, and full of depth. I go to Minneapolis alot, and his home town of Eau Claire, WI, where I think he still lives, is like an hour away. I've spent a good deal of time there, its a really cool city. His presence and spirit are everywhere in that town. Its a cool place to go and just drive around blasting his jams.

So its hard to swallow when he puts out intensely awful shit because he has developed Kanye ego syndrome or needs to produce overtly arty avant garde horsehit to try to gain some cred he doesn't need to acquire. I don't know. Give me Holocene or give me death.

T Pain goes indie is possibly the most hilariously accurate description of modern Vernon that I've ever heard
